Introduction:

Our travel app company has been developing features to help users plan and book their trips in a more efficient and hassle-free way. We have identified that many travelers prefer to take multi-leg trips, meaning they visit more than one destination in a single trip. Therefore, we decided to design a new feature to enable multi-leg trip planning to enhance the user experience.

Problem:

Our research showed that planning multi-leg trips can be a complicated and time-consuming process. Travelers must search for flights, hotels, and activities in each destination separately, and then coordinate their schedules to ensure everything fits together. This can lead to frustration and confusion, resulting in travelers abandoning their plans altogether.

Current solutions work great if you already have a set of cities mapped out, but aren't great for more flexible adventures.

Solution:

To solve this problem, we developed a multi-leg trip planning feature that allows users to easily plan and book their entire trip in one place. Users can select their start and end points and the app will suggest the best travel routes and options based on price, duration, and distance. Users can customize their trip by adding or removing stops, selecting the dates and times for each leg, and choosing their preferred transportation modes.

Design Process:

We began by conducting user research to understand the pain points and needs of travelers when planning multi-leg trips. We conducted interviews and surveys to gain insights into the common challenges users face and their expectations for a multi-leg trip planning feature. We used this feedback to create user personas and user journeys to guide the design process.

Next, we created wireframes and prototypes of the feature, testing each iteration with a small group of users to gather feedback and make improvements. We focused on creating a simple and intuitive interface that allowed users to easily navigate and customize their trip.

Finally, we integrated the feature into the app and launched it to a select group of users to test its usability and effectiveness. We received positive feedback from users, who appreciated the convenience and time-saving benefits of the multi-leg trip planning feature.

My takeaways:

By designing and implementing the multi-leg trip planning feature, we were able to provide a more comprehensive and streamlined experience for users. This new feature helps travelers easily plan and book their multi-leg trips, making their travel planning experience more enjoyable and efficient. We are excited to continue improving and enhancing our app to meet the evolving needs of our users.
